Have you ever dated a guy who has lied to you, whether it was a little lie or a big one?

Did he tell you he was vegetarian when he chowed down on a charcuterie platter three hours ago?

Did he tell you he was single when he had a wife and three kids at home?

These are all lies.

Maybe you can forgive the first two, depending on who he is and whether he has lied about other things, but the last one is obviously a deal-breaker.

Here’s the thing, some guys (and gals) lie when you first meet them. Usually, it’s because they want to impress you, convince you to go on a date with them, or build a connection with you.

Other times they had no intention of lying, but it fell out of their mouth before they even knew what was happening, and it was too late to take it back. What can I say? Guys do dumb stuff sometimes.

But that doesn’t change the fact that a lie is a lie.

Here are 5 of the most common lies men tell when dating.

Occasionally, you’ll meet a guy who is a pathological liar.

He tells you he’s the CEO of a company when he’s stacking shelves in Walmart. He tells you you’re the most beautiful woman he has ever met, but you’re the third woman he’s said that to this week. He tells you he’s heading back to his hometown for the weekend for his brother’s funeral, and he doesn’t even have a brother.

Beware of men who lie, whether it’s a small white lie or a massive one.

What else could he be lying about?

The thing that surprises me is how many men lie about their age. I assumed women did. This may happen more in the older age brackets. I’m a terrible liar and would rather under promise and over deliver. lol I’m 72 and met an 80 year old who confessed on our first date that he was not 70. Crazy!

Yes! I met someone who was supposedly 55 and turned out to be 60 – while actually looking like 42!! Despite all his great qualities he revealed many deep insecurities that brought our relationship to an end, sadly.

Adam,
Thank you for your personal commitment to being impeccable with your word.
A man-child will also often lie about his age and the size of his “family jewels” (we do eventually find out, yes but it can be used to seduce us/ pique our curiosity)
As per your video on Narcissism. All very helpful AND please encourage women who are recovering from a relationship with a cluster B, to seek out professional support. Recovery can be much faster this way!

After my divorce I was very messed up and made a lot of dating mistakes in search of someone who wouldn’t abuse me like my narcissistic ex. I met a lot of men who lied and turned out to be married. Probably the most outrageous liar I’ve ever met was a guy who always had an excuse for not seeing me for extended periods of time. First, it was because his mother had a stroke, then it was because his mother died, the next time was because his mother had a stroke … wait, what?? … that must be some… Read more »

You are so right Adam! I have had all of those lies told to me and probably a few more. Thanks for sharing this! The Narcissistic men are the worst! When I finally saw this guys true colours and ditched him, he proceeded to stalk me then he proceeded to put acid in my gas tank and that blew my engine. I had to buy a new vehicle! Thats not the worst thing, he broke into my house and stole all of the beautiful jewelry including my engagement ring. I have since learned how to read a narcissist and keep… Read more »
